Today’s apple slice comes from John 10:10 in the ESV version (ironically, that’s my birthday! 🙂 ).
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
What is your view of abundant life? What makes your heart beat when you think of it? Is it riches? Maybe you dream of having a fat bank account, so fat that you have fancy cars, gorgeous houses, whatever your heart fancies. Is it fame? Perhaps you long for people to know who you are, to fawn over, to want to be just like you. Whatever your view of abundant life is (and I’m assuming it’s deeper than fame or riches; if not, get right the Lord please!), I can assure you the only true abundant life is found in Christ.
We should not place our hope in the things of this world- not its comforts, luxuries, or enjoyments. Our hope for an abundant life is in Christ. That should be an encouragement. Jesus wants us to live abundantly here and now. He doesn’t want us to live with a defeated attitude.
We know that the thief (and keep in mind that the real thief- the real enemy– is Satan) has only come to steal, kill, and destroy. He’s come to steal our joy, our hope, our purpose. Today let’s remember we are called to live abundantly in Him.
