Today’s apple slice comes from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 in the NIV version.
1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
So, basically, there is a time for everything- from stuff we will go through in the future to stuff we are going through presently. There’s a time to rest; there’s a time to work. There’s a time to play and a time to be serious. How encouraging to realize that God ordains specific seasons in our lives. He already know everything we have faced, are facing, or will face. He’s got it all under control. Admitting and understand that He already has control makes it easier for us to relinquish what control we thought we possessed over our lives to Him.
This passage is helpful where I am right now. I’m trying to juggle a new ministry opportunity at my church, my internship, and my classes. I’m sure you have your own juggling acts to “perform.” Remember, we live in the grace of Christ. We don’t have to perform to please anyone. There’s a time to be recognized for your accomplishments, though; there is also a time to not receive credit or praise. Don’t live based on commendation. Live based on integrity, and “all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Whatever you are going through will not last forever. If you are experiencing bliss and prosperity, enjoy it. Savor it. Give God the glory! But, remember, it won’t last. If you are feeling despair and hopelessness, take heart. It will not last either. Learn what lessons you can from whatever point you are in your life.
