Before meeting with a group of ladies whom I love, God spoke to me about prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 admoinshes God’s children to pray without ceasing. Almost any Christian or really anyone with any relgious experience can likely remember hearing that Scripture referenced before. But has any among us actually meditated on the meaning of praying without ceasing. Maybe I did; if so, it was quite some time ago. Either way, God decided I needed reminding of what it means to pray without ceasing.
I remember feeling compelled to make my first thought each morning, “Dear God,…” and making the rest of the day an unending litany of prayer and then collapsing into bed with “in Jesus’ name, Amen” as my last conscious thought of the day. Let’s laugh about that for a moment.
Praying without ceasing is more than starting each day with, “Dear God…” and ending each night with, “In Jesus’ name, Amen.” Praying without ceasing is a life decsion. It is a conscious and constant awareness of the presence of God. It is a moment by moment willful determination to make Christ first.
Me: “I want to be the person who prays without ceasing, who’s always aware of the presence of God. I want to be someone who prays about EVERY decision of life.”
God: “That’s my girl.”
Satan: “Oh… I’ll give her something to ‘pray’ about, alright. We will see how long THAT decision lasts…”
Satan… Read the Book. God wins. You lose. I am God’s child, which means… I win, too. I WILL pray. I WILL hope. I WILL strive to be a blessing.
